A hand-held water pipe. Similar to bongs, a bubbler pipe has a mouthpiece, bowl, stem, and water chamber. Most bubblers have fixed bowls that can not be removed. As the name implies, the bubbler may also contain a percolator that aerates your smoke. Bubblers with fixed bowls feature a carb, or hole, that is used to clear out the smoke.
What is a bubbler?
A weed bubbler is an innovative smoking device that combines the benefits of full-sized bongs and regular spoon pipes.
If you compare bubbler vs bong, the key difference is size. Like regular bongs, a bubbler pipe uses water filtration to produce especially smooth and cool smoke. But unlike a full-sized bong, a bubbler pipe is handheld and therefore much more discreet, easy to use, and portable. Similarly, if you compare bubbler vs pipe, the key difference is the use of water filtration. Like a regular spoon pipe, a bubbler pipe is small and easy to carry, but a bubbler adds water filtration to enhance the smoking experience.
How to use a bubbler
Step 1: Add water to water chamber
Before anything else, add a small amount of water to the water chamber of your bubbler pipe. Give the piece a quick drag to test if you have the right amount. You need enough water to produce bubbles but not so much that it splashes into the bowl or mouthpiece.
Step 2: Pack the bowl
When you’re satisfied with the water level, grind up your favorite strain of cannabis and pack the bowl end of your bubbler pipe. As with a regular spoon pipe, don’t pack it so tightly that you struggle getting good airflow.
Step 3: Spark the herb
If your bubbler has a carb hole, place a thumb or finger over it. Hold the bubbler pipe to your mouth and, as you begin pulling in with your lungs, ignite a portion of the herb. As you continue pulling in, the smoke will flow from the bowl and into the water, creating tons of tiny bubbles. This bubbling action is what cools and filters the smoke.
Step 4: Clear the chamber
When you’re ready to take your hit, remove your thumb or finger from the carb hole and use your lungs to clear the chamber of your bubbler pipe.
What’s the difference between bubblers and bongs?
Bubbler or bong—what’s the difference?
- Size – Bubblers are much smaller than traditional bongs, making them more mobile and convenient.
- Bowl and Downstem – Most bongs use a cone-shaped bowl that slides in and out of the downstem. Most bubblers, on the other hand, have no downstem and include a fixed bowl that looks like the ones on the end of a spoon pipe.
Hand blown glass bubblers combine the function of water bongs and size of glass pipes. Weed bubblers can be handled with only one hand which is one of the greatest advantages. Smoking out of a hand blown glass bubbler is pleasant as the hot smoke is cooled down through the water. Nevertheless the bubbler´s water chamber is much more smaller than the glass bong´s. With regard to the size and appearance, weed bubblers are more similar to glass pipes.
Different types of hand blown glass bubblers
There is lots of styles and designs on the market and few different types of glass bubblers. From the classic glass on glass bubblers, through the rubber grommet bubblers to the fixed pot bubblers. Popular are also hammer bubblers. Hand blown glass bubblers come usually with a classic bowl but that can be changed to oil rigs. Therefore oil concentrates can be used as well as the dry herbs.

Bubbler vs bong
The average bong is going to be 1.5-2x larger than your average bubbler pipe. This makes a nice bong the ideal daily driver for when you can sesh at home and keep your bong safe and secure. With a strong and sturdy base, you can rest your bong in your lap as you rip it, or leave it on the table in front of you.
For those who like to take the show on the road, a bubbler is better than a bong. With their smaller size, bubblers are much more discreet, much easier to safely transport, and require much less water to fill the chamber.
There are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part bongs tend to take on just a handful of different shapes – with a long tube connecting a simple mouthpiece to a beaker or bubble shaped base. With their larger size, bongs can accommodate more intricate percolators, giving them some really awesome bubble stacking levels of diffusion. Where the overall shaping of bongs might lack in options, the vast number of different percs and the effect they each have on your smoking experience more than makes up for it.
Bubblers, on the other hand, usually display more variety in styling. Sometime the mouthpiece bends out the back like a sherlock pipe, or shoots straight off to the side. Bubblers are available with all sorts of different shape mouthpieces from tubes to discs to spoon style.
Bubblers tend to have simpler diffusion – lots of 2 or 3-hole percs. With their smaller chambers, stacking a thousand microbubbles just isn’t necessary, so the chug of the simple percs is very popular.
The bong has been a highly popular method of getting baked for decades now. But with dabbing on the rise, many people want a piece of glass that can multitask for them and handle both dank flowers and terpy dabs.
Yes, you can adapt most glass on glass fitted bongs with a dab nail of some sort and make it work. But the greater volume inside the large chamber of the bong deteriorates too much of the terps and flavor that we really enjoy as dabbers. Also, some bongs and bubblers look quite alike thus making it difficult for the inexperienced eye to choose between one and the other. That aside, they come in various shapes and sizes. The market is filled with colorful and plain bongs and bubblers, too.
Some bubblers have a built-in push bowl and/or downstem, and might not be able to accept a dab nail. But, if you spend a few minutes browsing our large selection, you are sure to find lots of options that will allow you to burn your trees and vape your oils all out of one handy bubbler pipe. As previously mentioned, bubblers have smaller chambers than bongs. Apart from that, bubblers are hand-held devices that provide great filtration in a smaller surface area. Bongs are standalone devices that you can operate without carrying or holding them in your hands. Many bubblers have no removable bowls, which is a big difference from bongs which have not only a down stem or removable bowl, but also a carb.
Any discussion regarding the differences between bubblers and bongs is not complete without talking about the benefits of ice cubes. Users can add ice cubes inside the bongs and certain bubblers for a special smoking experience. With bubblers, you can add ice cubes if the chamber is big enough– so if that is something you prefer, you should look into buying one that fits this criteria. In this regard, bongs are ideal for any user who wants a more personal experience.
